Mandatory Dog Licensing

Michigan Law requires that all dogs four months of age or older be licensed.

Licenses are available beginning December 1st for the following year and must be purchased by March 1st.

Where Can You Purchase a Dog License?

In-Person Options

  • St. Joseph County Treasurer’s Office
  • Your local Treasurer’s Office (Dec 1 – Mar 1)

Send a check or money order (no cash), your pet’s current rabies certificate, proof of sterilization (if applicable), and a self-addressed, stamped envelope to:

Neutered/Spayed Dogs

Intact Dog

After March 1st (regardless of sterilization)

Any person owning a dog that becomes 4 months of age at any time after the first day of March shall secure a license and pay the applicable fee(s).
