A Citizen's Highest Duty
As a juror, you are performing one of the highest duties imposed on any citizen: sitting in judgment to resolve civil disputes or determine the guilt or innocence of those charged with a crime. Your function is to decide cases on their merit, from sympathy or prejudice.
How You Are Selected
Jurors are selected at random by computer from a list of St. Joseph County residents who hold a valid Michigan driver’s license or State ID card.
Conduct & Communication
The integrity of the court requires strict protocols. While trials are in progress:
- No private contact or conversation with lawyers, prosecutors, or judges.
- Do not discuss the case with fellow jurors, family, or friends prior to deliberation.
- Report any condition to the Jury Clerk that makes your attendance impossible or impractical.
