Wahbememe Memorial Park serves as the final resting place of Potawatomi Chief Wahbememe, a revered friend to Michigan’s early settlers. According to legend, while in Detroit, the Chief learned of a plot to attack the settlement now known as White Pigeon. He reportedly ran 150 miles without food or rest to deliver a warning, saving the village before collapsing and passing away from exhaustion. The settlement was later named in his honor.

Visitor Information
Open Dawn to Dusk. The park is located along US-131 and is open from dawn to dusk for those wishing to pay their respects.
The village of White Pigeon remains a testament to the Chief’s bravery.
