Criminal Investigations

The Criminal Investigations Division (CID) encompasses the specialized units responsible for the investigation of major crimes and narcotics operations within St. Joseph County.

Major Crimes Task Force

Our Detectives serve as key members of the St. Joseph County Major Crimes Task Force, providing specialized expertise in case organization and presentation for criminal prosecution.

Detective Bureau

Detectives investigate high-priority incidents and assist the Uniformed Services Division with complex criminal cases. Areas of focus include:

  • Homicide
  • Rape
  • Robbery
  • Criminal Sexual Conduct
  • Fraud Cases
  • Major Interrogations

Detectives utilize specialized training in modern investigative techniques and advanced interview/interrogation methods.

Narcotics Unit (SWET)

The Southwest Enforcement Team (SWET) is a collaborative effort between the Sheriff’s Office, local law enforcement, and the Michigan State Police.

Objective: To protect citizens through the investigation of the manufacture and sale of controlled substances, including:

  • Methamphetamines
  • Heroin
  • Cocaine
  • LSD
  • Prescription Drugs
  • Illicit Regulated Substances

Collaboration: Day-to-day narcotics operations are managed jointly through the St. Joseph County Sheriff’s Office and the Michigan State Police to ensure maximum enforcement coverage.
