Uniform Interstate Family Support Act

Uniform Interstate Enforcement of Support Act (UIFSA)

UIFSA allows an order to be established or enforced in a state where the payer lives.

Requirement: Please note that we must be able to verify an address for the payer in order to pursue a UIFSA request for you.

Scenario: Michigan Order

If you have a Michigan order and all enforcement efforts have been exhausted, you can contact the Friend of the Court Office and request that a UIFSA request be sent to the payer’s state.

Scenario: Other State Order

If your order was issued by another state, and you now live in Michigan:

You can contact the support specialist at the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) and request that a referral be made to the Friend of the Court Office for a UIFSA request to be sent to the payer’s state.

MDHHS Support Specialist: (866) 661-0005

You may also download the necessary forms from our Forms & Documents page and return them to the address shown on the forms.

If your order was issued by another state, and both parties now reside in Michigan:

You can contact the support specialist at the DHS and request that a referral be made to the Friend of the Court Office to have the order registered in the State of Michigan.

Scenario: No Existing Order

If you do not have a court order, and the other party resides in another state, you can contact the support specialist at the DHS and request that a referral be made to the Child Support Division of the Prosecuting Attorney’s Office for establishment of a child support order.
